Our keynote speaker will be Bishop Rosemarie Mallett of the Diocese of Southwark in the UK.
The Right Revd Dr Rosemarie Mallett was born in Barbados but has lived much of her life in the UK. Prior to ordination, she was a research sociologist and academic, specialising in international development and ethno-cultural mental health. She has lived and worked in Tanzania, Ethiopia and Barbados. Dr Mallett served as Priest-in-Charge at St John the Evangelist, Angell Town, later being made Vicar there. She has also served as Director of Ordinands for the Kingston Episcopal Area and Diocesan Director of Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation. Dr Mallett was appointed to the role of Archdeacon of Croydon in 2020 and became the diocese's first female bishop in 2022.
She is the Diocesan lead on Racial Justice and authored the Diocese of Southwark’s Anti-Racism Charter. Dr Mallett regularly appears on BBC Radio Four’s Prayer for the Day and has led Daily Worship on BBC Radio Four. She is a spokesperson on racial and social justice issues nationally. She currently chairs the Church Commissioner's Oversight Group on the Spire Project on African Chattel Enslavement. Bishop Rosemarie is Chair of the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education, and a Trustee of several other diocesan and national para-church organisations, including Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI). From 2010 to 2021, she served on the General Synod of the Church of England, was one of the Synod Chairs for 5 years, and on several Archbishop's Council committees, including the Women in the Episcopate Steering Committee and the Pastoral Advisory Group. Rosemarie is a Fellow of the Westminster Abbey Institute and a Visiting Fellow of Jesus College Cambridge.
