Discernment to ministry in the Diocese of Ontario is following the promptings of the Holy Spirit to pursue whether God is calling you to something more, a new or different ministry, or to a vocation.
Discernment requires much prayer, scripture reading, and the practice of serving others. God may be calling you to something you are good at, care about, and enjoy doing. Points to consider: What sort of personality do I have? What are my gifts? Do I possess qualities for leadership? What do those who know me best think?
The process of discernment begins with an applicant and their priest, and when appropriate moves to deeper engagement in the life of the parish and work with an intentional discernment group.
If you are discerning a call to ordained ministry, be in touch with your parish rector to explore where God may be calling you.
