A hybrid meeting of the Diocese of Ontario Synod Council was held on Tuesday evening at St Paul’s Church, Kingston.

Alex Pierson led devotions, focusing on unity, utilising I Corinthians 12. He followed with prayer.

The Agenda for the meeting was approved. The bishop gave his report of the extensive schedule he has done, in the diocese and province and national church. On the Chapel in Tyendinaga, he is hoping to have another clergy for Bishop-Elect Rod BrantFrancis very soon.

The minutes of the meeting for March 25 2025 were approved. Canon Michael Read spoke on the upcoming Synod (8-10 May), saying the final agenda for Synod is approved with the only correction being that registration will begin on Friday morning rather than Thursday evening. As of the date of the Synod Council meeting, there are no motions or amendments to the Canons.

CFO Alex Pierson introduced the auditors, who presented the draft Audit for 2024. The Auditors from Wilkinson went through the Audit with their own notes and comments. After the presentation Council discussed and then passed the motion to receive the audit. A second motion to express appreciation for the auditors, particularly for Colleen who is retiring after six years, was approved.

CFO Alex Pierson presented information on the Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO) who are working with cemeteries in the Province for organization and compliance. There is a BAO movement for small cemeteries to work with municipalities for incorporation in the municipalities.

CFO Alex Pierson said the St John the Baptist Church in Lyn was deconsecrated this past Sunday in its last service. There was a motion to declare St John the Baptist disused, which was passed.

Quarter 1 finances were presented by Alex, which projected a $13,000 deficit, which did not happen due to budget variations. A motion was passed to received the results of the first Quarter finances.

Alex Pierson presented more information such as computerisation of data, making information available to congregations so that they will have their own portals for information, have streamlined communication, and better ways of working together. He presented questions for Synod Council to consider, and indicated these questions would be brought out at the next meeting, and also the Wardens, Treasurers, and Clergy conference call.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday May 20 from 6 to 8 pm at St Paul’s, Kingston.
