Archdeacon Emeritus of Kingston, The Ven William Clarke, is inviting our parishes on behalf of Bishop William Cliff to designate Sunday September 14, Holy Cross Day, to make an appeal, dedicate a fundraising project or undertake a special collection to go towards our diocesan committment to the Sisters of St. John the Divine (SSJD) renovation project.
At our 2023 Synod, the Diocese of Ontario, a motion was passed to raise $30,000 towards the project. To date a little more than $15,000 has been raised.
Holy Cross day was chosen as it provides an appropriate time to reflect on the valuable contributions that the women and men of our Anglican monastic traditions have made to the Anglican Church of Canada.
By supporting the renewal of the Motherhouse we are celebrating the hundred and thirty-nine years of ministry by the sisters of the SSJD in Toronto and the contribution of the guest house and retreat ministry of SSJD has made in that time to the common life and spirituality of the Anglican communion in Southern Ontario and across the Anglican Church of Canada.
The time has now come for our diocese to move complete this promise we made to the Sisters of St. John the Divine in 2023. A reminder that funds raised are non-assessable for the purposes of CMM.
To those parishes, congregations and individuals who have already contributed thank you! If you can continue to help that will be greatly appreciated.
On Sunday September 14, please consider taking up a special collection, making an appeal or dedicating a fundraising project to help support the Sisters of St. John the Divine Motherhouse in Toronto. Funds raised can be sent to the Diocese of Ontario Synod office at 165 Ontario Street, Commercial Suite 4&5.
