The Diocese of Ontario Green Group and Seniors for Climate Action Now (SCAN) are getting ready to celebrate Earth Day and Earth Week beginning April 21. Churches are invited to ring their bells to highlight the climate emergency and remind parishioners to appreciate the earth and consider actions to reduce carbon emissions. Social media can be used to spread awareness.

Preferred bell-ringing times include Earth Day, April 22, at noon, or daily throughout Earth Week. In Kingston, some may prefer ringing their bells on April 27, during the local Earth Day festival at Kingston Memorial Centre from 1:00 to 4:00 PM (plan to join us there). The number of bell peals is optional, with 75 suggested to symbolize the desired reduction in global atmospheric CO2 levels. The goal is to make bell ringing an annual Earth Day tradition.

Join the celebration and ring your church bells and let your community know why you are ringing them! For more information please contact greengroup@ontario.anglican.ca.
