Dear Friends,

The Churchwardens of The Cathedral Church of St. George with the support of the Dean have announced that Michael Capon, Organist and Music Director at St. George’s will be leaving this position.

I want to offer my deep thanks and appreciation to Michael on behalf on the people of the Diocese of Ontario for the ten years of excellent musical leadership he provided. During my nine years as Bishop, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Michael on Diocesan events and liturgies both at the Cathedral and in other venues. I was reminiscing yesterday about the 150th Diocesan Anniversary service held in 2012 at the Leon’s Centre in Kingston when over 2000 folks from across the diocese gathered in worship and celebration. The music and massed choir for that event under Michael’s direction was superb.

I have especially appreciated the fact that over my time as bishop, Michael ensured that invitations were extended to choristers from across the diocese to participate in diocesan liturgies held at the cathedral. I have received many positive comments from those choristers about the joy, excitement and welcome they experienced in being part of the cathedral choir for those occasions. Michael has also, in my view, extended the cathedral’s music ministry into the wider community of Kingston and made the cathedral a venue for a variety of performers in recitals and concerts.

Thank you Michael for your service to the ministry of both the cathedral and the diocese. Please know that you and Georgiana are in our prayers as you begin to consider the next steps in your fine career. Your hymn tune “Church Hill” is especially appropriate for this time, being set to the hymn, “From the Waiting Comes the Sign”. May your time of waiting bring you to a moment of new opportunity.

Blessings in Christ,

Bishop Michael Oulton
