Margaret Ray,
St. Peter's Anglican Church
On Sunday, March 19, 2023 I attended our Sunday Eucharist at St Peter’s which was officiated by our beloved Bishop Michael. It was a particularly emotional service for many of the parishioners at St. Peter’s. It probably was for Michael as well as St. Peter’s was his first placement in the Diocese of Ontario.
We were blessed that his wife, Sophie Kiwala, was also able to attend the celebration. For many of us it was our first opportunity to have the pleasure of meeting her.
Following the service, Bishop Michael took the time to speak with each of the parishioners as they lined up to share memories and wish him well.
Afterwards, a potluck was enjoyed by those who were able to stay. We enjoyed some good home cooking and fellowship, sharing memories and a few chuckles.
Michael and Sophie were asked to cut the cake together, while we teased them and pretended it was their wedding cake. (They got married during Covid and were limited to ten guests.) The photo shoot, along with some cheering and clapping, gave us the opportunity to pretend we were there with them at their wedding.
Michael headed out with a basket of goodies filled with homemade hot cross buns, leftover cake, assorted desserts and a personalized t-shirt. Sophie carried a bouquet of lovely yellow roses.
What a beautiful way to say farewell. He will be missed and we wish him and Sophie all the best.
